Frequently asked questions about SortSentry.

Answers about preview, rules, folder monitoring, file restoration and purchases.

Is SortSentry free, or is it a time-limited trial?

SortSentry Free can run up to three active rules and includes folder monitoring, move, rename, quarantine, preview and undo. It is not a time-limited trial. Pro is an optional one-time Microsoft Store purchase for unlimited active rules, regular expressions and daily/weekly schedules.

Does the app upload or read my files?

SortSentry processes files on your PC and does not send file names or contents to WD DIGI. Rules use file properties such as name, extension, size and last modification time. The app reads file bytes to calculate a SHA-256 fingerprint for safe undo; it does not categorize documents by reading their meaning. Microsoft Store handles purchase and license requests.

Will files move as soon as I install the app?

Preview is enabled for new users. Add folders and inspect the proposed destinations first. Select Start organizing and confirm before enabled rules apply file changes. You can return to preview or pause monitoring.

What happens when the destination name already exists?

SortSentry adds a numeric suffix to the incoming file name instead of overwriting an existing file. Check the preview destination before enabling organization.

Can I undo every action?

Undo needs the recorded destination file, unchanged contents and an unoccupied original path. It stops when those checks fail. If a rule applied several actions to one file, undo the most recent action first. Keep the local journal and quarantined files until you have restored what you need.

Does a watched folder include all its subfolders?

No. Monitoring covers files directly inside the folder you add. Subfolders are left alone. Add another personal folder separately if you want to watch it too. System folders, drive roots, network paths and linked folders are not supported as watched locations.

Why is a file still in its original folder?

Check preview, pause, the folder toggle and enabled rules. A matching rule must be within the Free rule limit or your active Pro license. Locked files are retried. Temporary downloads, system files, linked paths and online-only files are skipped. Make a local copy of a cloud placeholder before organizing it.

Can SortSentry run with its window closed?

Closing the window keeps the desktop process in the system tray. Use the tray menu to pause or quit. Optional Windows startup is off by default and can be requested in Settings. Folder monitoring and scheduled rules require the process to be running.

How do daily and weekly schedules work?

Schedules are a Pro feature. They use your PC’s local time while SortSentry is active. A missed daily run can catch up later that day; a weekly rule runs on its selected day. SortSentry does not install a Windows service to run after you quit.

How do I buy or restore Pro?

Open Get Pro inside SortSentry to use Microsoft Store checkout. The Store shows the final local price before purchase. To restore, sign into the Microsoft Store app with the purchasing account and select Settings → Restore purchase. WD DIGI has no separate checkout or subscription for SortSentry Pro.

Which versions of Windows are supported?

The package targets Windows 10 version 2004/build 19041 or later, including Windows 11, on x64 or ARM64. The Microsoft Store listing determines availability for your device. The app interface is in English; this website also provides Indonesian guidance.

What should I do before uninstalling?

Restore quarantined files you want to keep and finish any needed undo operations. Uninstalling or removing local app data may remove the quarantine storage and activity journal. Removing a folder from Watched folders only stops monitoring; it does not delete that folder’s files.
